Toka Leya Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Toka Leya Camp is just seven miles from the magnificent Victoria Falls on the upper Zambezi within Zambia’s Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park.

Accommodations at the camp consist of twelve spacious safari style tents including three family tents on raised wooden decks. There are nine twin-bedded standard tents but the beds can be moved together to create a double bed. Each elegantly decorated tent has comfortable beds draped in mosquito netting and climate control. The en suite bathrooms include double vanities, a flush toilet, a shower, and a romantic outside bath. The expansive, private wooden deck features comfortable chairs and is the perfect place to relax and take in the stunning views.

The camp overlooks the mighty Zambezi River and some of its islands within Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. The Park’s name means the smoke which thunders, the Kololo name given to world-famous Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world and the largest waterfall. The Park covers twenty-five square miles from the Songwe Gorge below the falls in a north-west arc along about the Zambian river bank. The wildlife park includes tall riverine forest with palm trees, miombo woodland and grassland with plenty of birds, and animals including Angolan giraffe, Grant’s zebra, warthog, sable, eland, Cape buffalo, impala, and other antelope. There are ten rhinos living in the park. Hippos and Nile crocodiles frequent the mighty Zambezi River below the Falls.

The camp has daily game drives through the national park conducted by an expert guide in a 4×4 safari vehicle. River cruises explore the Zambezi River and are the best way to see pods of hippos and large Nile crocodiles. Community visits travel to local villages to learn about their rich culture and traditions. Rhino tracking expeditions let guests accompany a scout from the Zambian Wildlife Authority as they track endangered rhinos. But the locale’s premier attraction is Victoria Falls, which guests should explore on day trips to Victoria Falls Town. For an additional fee, visitors can view the falls via helicopter, raft in the rapids downstream, or enjoy the upper stretch of the river in a canoe or jet boat.

Wooden walkways connect the tents with the main area, limiting the environmental impact on this pristine area. The main camp houses a spacious dining, lounge, and bar area that all enjoy marvelous views of the Zambezi River. A large sundeck is used for outdoor dining. There is a refreshing infinity pool for escaping the heat of the day. Delicious meals include offering from the pizza over. At night, everyone gathers around the firepit. A curio shop and spa are also available.
